Good skiing deserves a good lunch

If fancy something a little different for Lunch then why make your way down Briançon you can do this by bus or skiing. Check out guide to skiing over for lunch and taking in the 4 peaks along the way  

Whether we fancy a savoury galette, a cosy brasserie or a lunch worth lingering over, these four places give the group something to agree on. Briançon’s old town can wait for another day in normal shoes.

Taking the bus from Charlotte to Briançon for lunch

You don’t have to ski across the valley to join us for lunch. From Chalet-Hotel Charlotte, take the Altigo line 6 towards Briançon, boarding at Église in Le Monêtier-les-Bains and getting off at Sainte Catherine in Briançon.

Under the autumn timetable, valid from 31 August to 4 December 2026, the following options run Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays:

• 11:05 departure, 11:32 arrival: a 27-minute journey, leaving time for a wander and a coffee before a 1pm lunch.
• 12:45 departure, 13:12 arrival: also 27 minutes, better suited to a slightly later lunch once you’ve walked to your restaurant.

For a table booked at 1pm, I’d take the earlier bus—arriving with time for a coffee is considerably more relaxing than keeping everyone’s lunch waiting!

Travelling during the ski season? Winter services have a different timetable. Check the latest line 6 timetable or the resort’s bus information in English for your travel date, and ask the Charlotte team to point out your boarding stop.

Lunch near Prorel at a glance

• Mistigri – Le S — about 5 minutes’ walk. An arty café and crêperie for galettes and sweet crêpes.
• Le Pêché Gourmand — about 5 minutes’ walk. Creative seasonal cooking for a leisurely lunch.
• L’Atelier du Cachalot — about 6 minutes’ walk. An informal spot with a changing menu and Asian influences.
• La Brasserie du Casino — about 3 minutes’ walk. A cosy brasserie with French, regional and Italian influences.

Crêpes or a leisurely lunch?

Mistigri – Le S

About 5 minutes’ walk · 350 metres

An informal café, bistro and crêperie with an arty streak and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Savoury galettes and sweet crêpes make this an appealing option for a sociable lunch. I rather like the prospect of following something savoury with a pancake—you can always blame the morning’s skiing.

From the gondola, take the route across the Passerelle du Prorel footbridge towards Central Parc, where you’ll find Mistigri at Central Parc 3.

Le Pêché Gourmand

About 5 minutes’ walk · 350 metres

For a lunch that becomes a proper part of the day’s adventure, this is the more refined option. Sharon and Jimmy combine seasonal ingredients with creative, internationally influenced cooking, served in surroundings that feel smart but relaxed. I’d allow time to enjoy several courses here—and perhaps make peace with the idea of taking the bus home before the desserts arrive.

From the gondola, follow the walking route along Avenue René Froger towards Route de Gap. The restaurant is at 2 Route de Gap.

Two more tempting tables near Prorel

L’Atelier du Cachalot

About 6 minutes’ walk · 450 metres

A small, creative restaurant bringing together art and food, with an informal atmosphere and cooking that ventures beyond the usual mountain favourites. Asian-inspired dishes, including ramen and curries reported on its changing menu, offer something different when the group fancies a break from cheese. This would be my suggestion for adventurous appetites, provided lunch service is available on our chosen day.

From the gondola, follow Avenue René Froger, then Avenue Maurice Petsche, towards Place de Suze and Central Parc II, where the restaurant is located.

La Brasserie du Casino

About 3 minutes’ walk · 200 metres

The closest of these four options, serving French brasserie food with regional and Italian influences. The wood-and-stone setting and central fireplace give it a cosy winter feel—an inviting prospect after a morning crossing the mountains. I’d put this on the shortlist for a straightforward sit-down lunch with the whole group, without wandering far from our return lift.

From the gondola, walk along Avenue René Froger towards Avenue Maurice Petsche and the Circus Casino, where you’ll find the brasserie.

Whichever we choose, I’d book ahead for a group and check the winter lunchtime opening hours. If you’re following our four-peaks ski route and hoping to ski back to Monêtier, keep an eye on the time: a leisurely lunch is lovely, but Vallons won’t stay open just because we’ve ordered pudding.
